From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
